April 10

    Connie,

I just preached on this scripture on Wednesday night.  It is Saturday morning and the Lord got me up to pray at 2am and I have
been up all morning praying.  I have to go to class now, but the Lord had me look at the e-mail before I left.

    Have a good Day!

    Keith

Title: Trust is the key to believing.

John 14:1 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.
John 14:2 In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a
    place for you.

    Theme: Trust

    I. The nature of trust

    What is trust.

    Trust: (Believing)
    3. hope for future: hopeful reliance on what will happen in the future

    Believe:
    2. accept somebody as truthful: to accept that somebody is telling the truth

We are going to look at this text believing or trusting that Jesus has told the truth.

What did Jesus tell his disciples’ here?

John 14:2 In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a
place for you. In heaven I will prepare a place for you. Each person will have an apartment of his own. A place made just
for you, your own, special place.

    II. The need of trusting.

John 14:1 "Do not let your hearts be troubled."

    Why would Jesus say this?

Lets look back in chapter 13 to see the discussion Jesus answering Peter .

John 13:37 Peter asked, "Lord, why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you."
John 13:38 Then Jesus answered, "Will you really lay down your life for me? I tell you the truth, before the rooster
crows, you will disown me three times!

In v.36 Jesus tell Peter he will follow, but not now.
(V.1)Trust in God; trust also in me.

They could not see God but they trusted in His word. Now would come a time when they would have to trust in Jesus as he would
die on the cross. They would feel like failures and he is telling them Trust in what I have spoken to you. It is the Way!

Why is trusting Jesus so important here? Jesus is telling them that it will be hard, but trust in his words.

John 3:15 that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.

Believes in Jesus and the Cross.

John 3:36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath
    remains on him."

Without Trusting or (believing) we do not have eternal life.

John 14:2 In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a
    place for you.

If we do not trust Jesus then how could we ever live a life of faith.  What else are the benefits of trust in this passage.
So if we are not going to let our hearts be troubled, then what needs to happen?

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be
troubled and do not be afraid.

Trusting give you peace, and peace and fear cannot live together. Trusting or believing set us free from worry.

    Peace:
    2. tranquillity: a calm and quiet state, free from disturbances or noise

    Fear:
    1. feeling of anxiety: an unpleasant feeling of anxiety or apprehension caused by the presence or anticipation of danger

Colosians 3:15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts,

Trusting and believing are a matter of the Heart, knowing is a matter of the mind. I can know that a rope bridge will hold my weight,
but if I do not believe in my heart that it will, I will not cross over the bridge.

Are some things harder to trust in? If the bridge is 1 foot off the ground I do not have to trust it as much as a bridge 150 feet off
    the ground.

Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in
    Christ Jesus.

    III. The results of trusting.

John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be
    where I am.

It give us the ability to walk with God in faith.

John 14:4 You know the way to the place where I am going."

Jesus tells them the way in (v.6)

John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Knowing in your mind then trusting in your heart bring peace and the assurance of salvation.

Philippians 4:7 The peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ
    Jesus.

There is a part of the sea known as "the cushion of the sea." It lies beneath the surface that is agitated by storms and churned
by the wind. It is so deep that it is a part of the sea that is never stirred. When the ocean floor in these deep places is dredged
of the remains of plant or animal life, it reveals evidence of having remained completely undisturbed for hundreds, if not
    thousands, of years.

By knowing and trusting in God and Jesus we have a peace that will enable us to stand for God and to believe him at his word.

1Corinthians 15:51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed—
1Corinthians 15:52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will
be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.

1Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the
archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
1Thessalonians 4:17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds
to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.

It is the trust that is deep in the heart of the believer that will hold us in times when we do not understand. How could we even
begin to believe in the Lord coming to call us to his side, in the clouds, believing in his return to take us home, as his word says,
if we have no trust in his word or his son Jesus.

The peace of God is an eternal calm like the cushion of the sea.
It lies so deeply within the human heart that no external difficulty
or disturbance can reach it. And anyone who enters the
presence of God becomes a partaker of that
undisturbed and undisturbable calm.
