The American Christian Strength in the Midst of the Storm Lesson 1
We know from the previous chapter’s lessons Weapons of “Words Past and Present” that God has always been an intended part, the whole thrust; of the peoples coming here. To be established in this new land so that they could worship their God in the way to which they believed (this without controls of Government). Therefore they made God the essential part of the plan. One that government could not dissolve the covenant they had struck with their God. Examples of this all over our walls and our Constitution and Bills of Rights.
Covenant, what is that? A mutual undertaking between two parties or more each binding himself to fulfill obligations.-(Vines dictionary)
A covenant went on forever as an oath. It was not taken lightly. It was not a transient or fluid resolution, but one that stood firm like a rock for generations.
Let’s look again at our oath to God as a Nation.
Our Pledge to our Flag reads:
I pledge allegiance to the Flag Of the United States of America, And to the Republic for which it stands: One Nation under God, indivisible, With Liberty and Justice for all.
This is a covenant agreement between The American People and God.
Examples - God to Man
Gen 9:9-16
9 And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you. 10 And with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the cattle, and every beast of the earth with you. Of all that go out of the ark, even every beast of the earth. 11 And I will establish my covenant with you. Neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of the flood. Neither shall there anymore be a flood to destroy the earth. 12 And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations. 13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. 14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud, 15 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh. And the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16 And the bow shall be in the cloud. And I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. ASV
Gen 17:2-7 God and Abraham
2 And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly. 3 And Abram fell on his face. And God talked with him, saying; 4 As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be the father of a multitude of nations. 5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but they name shall be Abraham. For the father of a multitude of nations have I made thee. 6 And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee. 7 And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee, throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee and to thy seed after thee. ASV
Rom 1:16-2:1
Is this our peoples right now?
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
17 For therein is revealed a righteousness of God from faith unto faith: as it is written, But the righteous shall live by faith.
Example of those who turn from their God- Peoples who break covenant with Him.
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hinder the truth in unrighteousness;
19 because that which is known of God is manifest in them; for God manifested it unto them.
20 For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, (even) his everlasting power and divinity; that they may be without excuse:
21 because that, knowing God, they glorified him not as God, neither gave thanks; but became vain in their reasonings, and their senseless heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things . 24 Wherefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts unto uncleanness, that their bodies should be dishonored among themselves:
25 for that they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile passions: for their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 and likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another, men with men working unseemliness, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was due.
28 And even as they refused to have God in (their) knowledge, God gave them up unto a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting;
29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 backbiters, hateful to God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 without understanding, covenant-breakers, without natural affection, unmerciful:
32 who, knowing the ordinance of God, that they that practise such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but also consent with them that practise them.
So where does that live us? We still have our vow to God. We still stand Pledge our allegiance to God. Our vow to him is binding.
Think about a cement foundation of a house. If you did not like parts of that foundation yet the whole house was meant to have that ingredient, still you don’t like in it. So then you decide to take it out, taking a jack hammer you start removing the parts even though they are many. Then the whole foundation crumbles into a broken bunch of rocks that do not support the house. The House falls. Just as our Nation will without God.
Our strength of our Nation comes from God.
As long as we know our strength is God then we will adjust our thinking. We will put our faith in God not man.
There are two ways to handle the things going on right now.
Man’s way and God’s way.
In next lesson we will view Moses, he tried both ways.
